Are you the Festive Cake Icing Champion of the World?

The festive season is upon us, which in our world means only one thing. It’s time for the annual Yuppiechef Festive Cake Icing Challenge to kick off.
Bake and ice a festive cake that pays tribute to Christmas in South Africa, submit a photo (with up to four process pics) via our Facebook App and stand a chance to win R1,000 worth of kitchen tools of your choice from Yuppiechef.co.za. Sound like fun? Keep reading.

Cakes will be assessed on:

- South African Christmas patriotism
- level of icing dexterity and detail, and
- the evidence of special, left-field and Mzanzi effort gone to.

Try your hand at a traditional Christmas cake or give a sponge a whirl, whatever it takes just make a cake. We’ve got a winning recipe for fruit cake (remember to feed it brandy for a few weeks before icing). Here are some of last year’s entries for inspiration:

So many icing options, what will you choose? The minimalist route with a dust of icing sugar and fresh flowers?  Complex sugarwork that would make the tooth fairy hot under the collar? From snow-peaked royal icing to a smooth fondant finish undergirded with marzipan and apricot jam – we are calling for all you icing champions to come forth for some festive baking fun.

Head over to the Festive Cake Icing Challenge app to find out more, read the rules and submit your entry when you’re ready. Entries close at midnight on 27th December and we’ll announce the winner before the year is out.

Toodle pip, and may the force of good cake and festive cheer be with you.

* If you’d like to enter but are not on Facebook, email us on competitions@yuppiechef.com and we’ll see what we can do.
