Eat for the Earth 2012: Lunch at Yuppiechef HQ

Yesterday was World Environment Day, the most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action, and the Yuppiechef team rallied together to eat for the earth in support of our friends, Soil for Life.

If you’ve not heard about it, find out about Eat for the Earth - our annual challenge to anyone and everyone to host a charity meal for friends, family and colleagues – that went down on Tuesday 5 June this year.

For us, the day kicked off with exciting stirring noises in the test kitchen as Ali, Sigrid, Mandy and Stacey cooked up a tasty quartet of veggie soups including Tuscan tomato bread soup, spicy carrot soup, courgette and broccoli soup and a Thai veg creation.

The window sills were lined with Eat for the Earth flyers, our wooden tables were decked with compostable cutlery, bowls and plates and even the Queen got involved.

We watched the Eat for the Earth video together, chatted a bit about the initiative, tucked into our earth-friendly line up with the wonderful folk in Soil for Life in mind and then made our donations.

Our soups were followed by a steaming servings of seasonal pear crumble and Malva pudding, served with more custard than is proper shortly after which we split into teams to kick off an inter-office spinach growing challenge. It will culminate in a massive spinach salad at the end of June and promises to be interesting.

We had a great time and are thoroughly enjoying all the photos  streaming in of meals hosted around the country and further afield. If you took part in Eat for the Earth, remember to send your photos to competitions@yuppiechef.com by Friday 8 June and then keep an eye out next week for the participation prize winner announcements.

We feel lucky us gold to work alongside the quality folk at Soil for Life, and support them in their valuable work greening some of South Africa’s poorest areas and teaching people to grow their own food. Roll on Eat for the Earth 2013.
