Spring Cake Pop Challenge winners (thanks, Bakerella)

And it’s a wrap. For this year’s annual baking challenge, we took a step away from festive cakes into the world of cake pops. A happy, hearty slap on the back to the ninety bakers who took part in our challenge, we sure hope you had fun. Without further ado we welcome our guest judge, the creator of cake pops herself, Bakerella:

‘I had a blast looking though all of the entries for Yuppiechef’s Spring Cake Pop Challenge. So much creativity and love showed through in all of the submissions. Everyone did such a great job and I wish I could pick more than just three spring-themed winners. So I did and picked 10 more runner-ups. Alright… here are my top three.’

Jessica Franks, for her trolls.

Jess, I absolutely loved your trolls. They gave me a huge smile as soon as I set eyes on them. You tinted the candy coating just right and such a creative way to use cotton candy. Definitely a quirky take on spring.

Heidi Hawes, for her lady bugs.

Heidi, your lady bugs sing spring. They are simple and sweet and those heart mouths are adorable.

And our third winner, Cathrine Vermeulen for her spring scene.

Cathrine, your spring scene is bursting with happiness. Everything is pulled together beautifully from the field of flowery cake pops below to the fluffy clouds above and all of the characters in between. Excellent detail and presentation. Congratulations, Cathrine!

Okay, now for 10 runners up… just some more I had to mention.

Lizanne – Your watermelon pops with seeds inside are adorable. Great job on the exterior detail. But what I think I like most is that you dipped them in white first for that extra rind detail. Bravo. Zozette – your petals are perfect! I would love a bouquet of these any day. Shereen – great colour choices for these fish pops. And those big lips… love them!

Vickie – The pastel colour scheme on these flower pops is perfect and I love that you made your own flowers from marshmallows. Jess, very cute way to incorporate Yuppiechef and spring… such happy pops.

Marisa – Such a fun assortment. Love Cookie Monster and the flower bouquet. And the pumpkin. Okay I love them all. Jacqui and her daughter – I love simple and effective uses of candy for detail and your stoplights showcase that perfectly. Simple and super effective. Sue, pretty spring colour scheme and great job on having super smooth pops.

Megan – Your little trifles are the cutest. Love the layers of yumminess. I’ll take 10 please. And finally, Althea, your little kitties are purrfectly adorable. I kept coming back to these because I could feel the love you put into them. Very sweet.’

A huge thank to you, Angie, for taking time out to be involved in our cake pop activity at the foot of Africa. We are chuffed as cheetahs to have had you aboard. And, well done to our winners! The top three will each be receiving a R500 Yuppiechef voucher and as promised everyone who took part will be getting a little something, so keep an eye on your inboxes in the next while folks.

Check out all of the entries, they’re also up on Pinterest, beautiful né? A final special shout out to Adi, Rebecca and Hood#1, our young and upcoming baking champs. See you all again soon for the next Yuppiechef challenge.
