Yuppiechef’s 6th Birthday (whopah!)
The first Yuppiechef order was placed on 16 August 2006 so we celebrate that as our big day. This year we kicked it off with a jolly tea and a few games that we figured Yuppiechef would want to play at the bright-eyed age of six. Kitchen tool pass the parcel revealed Zoku Pop Makers, Victorinox knives and Eat-me Toast Stamps and warning shouts rang out as dizzy people wandered towards the balcony after pinning the knife on Spatchit.
Being sellers of the world’s best kitchen tools means we have an awesome test kitchen and Sigrid, Ali and Mandy teamed up to bake a smashing pink number 6 cake and sugar cookies with our faces on. For real, rice paper and edible ink. Needless to say, they disappeared rather quickly!
To make our party bigger and include some folk from the other side of the internet in our celebration we snuck Cuisipro Y Peelers into two hundred Yuppiechef orders. Why the peeler? It was the tool we shipped to our very first customer and if you were one of the lucky people who got one – like Elri Pollard and Stacey Vee who shared these snaps – we hope they made you smile.
On Friday evening we dressed up to the nines with a dash of pink and headed to Five Flies restaurant in the heart of Cape Town for champagne, tasty supper, speeches and celebrating. Pink balloons bobbed, candles were lit and Mash (our pink knitted monkey) was passed around and thrown chandelier high.
We had a whale of time and it was great to have the extended Yuppiechef team (husbands, wives and special partners) in the mix. Paul shared a story about a barber, Andrew spoke about binary numbers and we clinked, reminisced and marveled at how difficult it was to fit the whole team into one photo!
The Five Flies team did a great job of keeping us watered and well fed with a delicious spread of fine food (as well as re-arranging a lot of furniture to make the evening just right for us).
They say it takes a village to raise a child and we sure are thankful to everyone who cheers Yuppiechef on from the sidelines. To our customers, Facebook friends, fellow foodie people, suppliers, admirers and inspirers a big thank you and solemn squeeze on the upper arm for making the past year a great one. Onwards and upwards we go.
